But New York can also be expensive and generally many of the rents in Manhattan are sky high and increasing. Apartment hunting in New York can sometimes be frustrating experience.
So what is one to do if you want a piece of the Big Apple for a great price without turning to sublets and roommates? It takes a little ingenuity, lots of planning and research and even a bit of luck to find the perfect pad in a great neighborhood but it is possible. Here's three ways to find an apartment in New York.
1. Look at Outer Boroughs
Manhattan rents seem to be increasing by the day yet many places in the outer boroughs are overlooked. Check out up and coming neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens and even the Bronx. Despite the image they are portrayed in the movies there are charming, safe neighborhoods in many parts of these boroughs.
